12 12 Language Focus – Past Simple: negatives and questions For negatives and questions in the past simple, we use the auxiliary did (didn’t) and the infinitive form (v1) of the verb. You didn’t like your colleague. Did he leave the company? Why did he leave the company? Note the form with the verb to be. Was he a good colleague? No, he wasn’t.
