4 Laboratory Safety and Procedures Accidents? Accidents can happen –Remain calm ALL –Report ALL accidents immediately –Prevention! watch & help your partner

5 Laboratory Safety and Procedures Types of Accidents & How to Handle them A. Broken Glass –most common –stop where you are; assess situation –move when safe; report cuts –clean up; put in broken glass box –chemicals involved?

6 Laboratory Safety and Procedures Types of Accidents & How to Handle them B. Scrapes and Cuts –report immediately to teacher –possibility of infection –do not contact another’s blood what if blood is present?

7 Laboratory Safety and Procedures Types of Accidents & How to Handle them C. Chemical Spills –chemical safety warning signs –small mess or major disaster? –treat all as dangerous; respect –wait for instructor’s directions –on your skin or clothing?
