How the New Study Impacted the Exam

How The New Study Impacted the Exam Changes in categories, which are used to group tasks/competencies, resulted in a change in emphasis: Development is no longer a category but a thread or integrated concept throughout all categories Assessment is no longer a subcategory of the outline but a major category Importance of both management, which includes a list of nursing skills, and professional role responsibilities as major categories and not integrated concepts Health Promotion becomes a major category containing tasks from the old categories of Development and Family

Content Areas for the Exam 2001 1.Development 2.Psychosocial/Behavioral 3.Family 4.Physiology 5.Pathophysiology 2008 1.Assessment 2.Health Promotion 3.Management 4.Professional Role

Exam Administration Changes Feedback from the Advisory Committee resulted in a reduction in number of exam items and thus allotted time: 2001 3.5 Hours 200 Exam Questions (180 scored/20 pre-test items) 2008 3 hours 175 Exam Questions (150 scored/25 pre-test items)

Questions about this update to the exam…

Questions others are asking: Q: When does the updated exam launch? A: The new exam is expected to begin 12/15/08. On-site paper-pencil versions of the new exams begin shipping 12/15/08. Q: Is there any advantage in taking one version of the exam over the other? A: No, both will equally assess your knowledge. Q: Do I need to study differently if I choose to take the new exam? A: No, any preparations you undertake will benefit you regardless of which exam version you take. The reference list remains the same because the tasks listed on the new outline have not changed significantly from the older one.
