Do Now Login to your computer Open Microsoft Word Write the word Patent and Copyright on your document. Open up Google and write a definition of each word using your own words. You have 5 minutes to do this!

Objectives SWBAT: When given a video depicting the legal battles during the early birth of video game technology, students will explain how a patent protects intellectual property and how innovation in video game technology resulted from ideas shared within the technology. Students will describe and explain the purpose of the patent process by reading about the patent process and studying examples of patents. Students will identify and describe three new technologies and/or processes that were created in response to the advent of video game technology.

Let’s Think About Why do you think Copyright and Patent laws have a hard time keeping pace with technology? New genres get created and with them come a lot of copycats. Think of all the iPod accessory makers! Think of the iPod itself! What about he iPhone and the explosion of other touch screen phones?

Do Now LOGIN to your computers. Take out the worksheet we had yesterday, make sure your name is on the paper and that you have completed 7 and 8. Place your sheet in the HANDIN BIN next to the printer for credit.

How Patents Work Today you are going to read a short article about Patents and how they work. Answer the 7 questions either by yourself or with a partner. I will give you about 15 minutes to complete the 7 questions.
