Meet-The-Teacher Night Agenda Welcome! We are thrilled to meet you! While you are waiting, your students wrote you a letter about there year! Please find their seat, read, and enjoy. On the desk, I also left you a paper and pen in case you need to take notes, or write a note to your student! 7:00-7:30Kircher, Edwards, and Swain Triad Presentation 7:30-8:00 We are able to visit with parents. Science and Social Studies Instruction Schedule: First two trimesters focus on Science. Third trimester focuses on Social Studies. Grades in Powerschool: One grade for Science and Social Studies. Instruction Variety: – Projects and Labs – Technology and Videos – Tests and Quizzes – Note-taking – Application of Language Arts skills into content Instruction Focus: real-life relevance, critical thinking, problem solving, written expression.

Writing Workshop Taught by homeroom teacher 35 minute class per day. Focuses on the writing process through mini lessons that students then model in their writing Research based mini lessons Writing will focus on narratives, informational text, and opinion/argument writing

Mrs. Swain Language Arts Benchmark Literacy Program – Reader’s Workshop format Mini lessons modeled by teacher then implemented by students 2 week units Small group with teacher at reading level – Book Clubs Students will work with groups reading differentiated reading novels. – Independent Reading Students will be expected to read 2 independent books each trimester. Book report forms will be due on each book. Midterm 1 AR is due at the end of the day on Thursday, September 17 th. Trimester 1 AR is due at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 10 th. Midterm 2 AR is due at the end of the day on Thursday, January 7 th. Trimester 2 AR is due at the end of the day on Tuesday, March 1 st. Midterm 3 AR is due at the end of the day on Thursday, April 14 th. Trimester 3 AR is due at the end of the on Wednesday, May 25 th.

Language Arts Continued Bellwork Quizzes – Students will complete bellwork each day (Monday-Thursday) – Quiz over the two weeks of lessons will be every other Friday – Bellwork consists of comprehension skills, writing, grammar, and vocabulary – Everything will be written/glued in “bellwork notebook” Books: – Whole class: Watson’s go to Birmingham 1963 Students will read 3 of the following and will not be able to read the titles for AR: The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Language Arts Continued Grading – 80% of grade is based on projects, tests, and quizzes – 20% of grade is based on homework and participation Homework When stations begin in October, homework will all be due at the end of the week. Students will have “daily assignments” and will be given class time to work, but I will not collect it until the station rotation is over. Weekly goal sheets will be given at the start of the week with the expectations.
