2  H1N1 is a new flu virus in 2009.  This specific flu is affecting all populations.  There are many ways to protect yourself from getting the flu.  It is important to know how to take care of somebody that has the flu. Introduction

3  H1N1 is a flu virus  It is spreading from human to human  A pandemic is on the way according to authorities  Many healthy people are becoming ill because they do not have any antibodies built up What is H1N1

4  The first pandemic of H1N1 flu actually happened in 1976.  Many soldiers were becoming very ill.  Not one person received a vaccine until 7.5 months after the first case was confirmed. First pandemic of H1N1

5 Prevention Health officials are offering H1N1 vaccines that may help people stay healthy There are some very easy ways to protect yourself from getting sick If you do become ill, there are some antiviral medications that you can take

6  With the amount of people getting sick it is very important to stay as healthy as possible  The more people that get sick the more likely that deaths will rise  PROTECT yourself and your family What’s Next?

7 How is H1N1 affecting K-12 education? It is not good when a kid comes to school sick -they have difficulty staying on task -they may get others sick -they usually just want to be home and resting with someone to take care of them

8  Every school has a different course of action that they need to follow that best suites students at that school  Some actions include: -screening -separate ill students and staff -better cleaning of schools What are schools doing?

9  H1N1 is a big disruption for schools  Many schools are closing as a result from H1N1  Students may fall behind in their academic progress  Students may have to make up the missed classes during the summer months Closing schools

10  It is uncertain what may need to be done next to address this serious issue  Keep Healthy now  Close schools if necessary  Get treatment for people when needed Future Directions

11 Conclusion This is a very serious problem in our country today and worldwide When available it may be beneficial to wear a facemask or respirator for protection KEEP YOUR FAMILY SAFE AT ALL COSTS!!!
