2. who Doc was born in Vermont and he was a physician\. He traveled from Ohio to California, but changed plans because he fell in love with a woman named Catherine. Maynard had an important role the early life of Seattle. He moved to Olympia then Seattle with Catherine. They arrived in Seattle in 1852. He became a member of the Seattle society and helped build the city’s structure.

3. What Doc Maynard selected a small island now know as Pioneer Square on the sheltered side of Elliot Bay to homestead. He opened the first store in Seattle and he sold goods, furniture and medical supplies. The store was located on First and Main Street. Catherine Maynard was his wife. She brought a shaving stand in 1853 for him. He served as the Indian’s agent and became Seattle’s justice of the peace. He was appointed King county’s notary public legislator.

4. What did he do His land claim was much of what downtown Seattle is today. Denny and Maynard were trying to plan the streets, but they found conflicting plans on May 23, and the streets are still mismatched today on Yesler way. He also proposed to name the city Seattle after Chief Seattle. His funeral was the biggest in the history of the city of that time. He died in the year of 1873. He had such a big effect on Seattle that everybody came to his grave to celebrate.
