A centre of expertise in digital information management www.ukoln.ac.uk 2 A Brief Introduction to Us UKOLN, a national centre of expertise in digital information management –Is based at the University of Bath –Is funded by JISC and MLA –Has a HE / FE and cultural heritage sector remit –Has run numerous workshops (e.g. NOF-digi, the annual Institutional Web Management Workshop etc.) –The Interoperability Focus Team The Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS) North East Museums Libraries and Archives (NEMLAC)

A centre of expertise in digital information management www.ukoln.ac.uk 3 About the Workshop This workshop aims to provide participants with the opportunity to: Learn about the importance of standards Explore the best practices needed to develop usable, functional and interoperable resources that will support the community Take a look at case studies of successful (and unsuccessful) digitisation projects Consider the rationale and planning behind a successful digitisation project Explore good practice resources Develop a strategy for ways of improving best practice in your organisation
