Vocabulary Zimmerman Note : a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire for Mexico to join an alliance with Germany in the event of the United States entering World War I against Germany.

The US enters the war In 1917, the war is still going on. The Triple Entente was loosing, primarily due to Germanys unrestricted submarine warfare.

Germany’s unrestricted submarine warfare meant that they were attacking any enemy vessel, regardless of it was peaceful or not. This included some American ships

The United States is very angry about this, and is made angrier when they find out about a telegraph that was sent from Germany to Mexico.

This “Zimmerman Note” tells Mexico that if they attack the United States, not only would they get help from Germany, but that they would also get land they had lost in the war of 1848.

The US enters the war in 1917 and support Great Britain. They brought hundreds of thousands of troops that rejuvenated the Triple Entente.
