Habitat n Can live in almost any climate n Wild elephants – live in Africa and Asia – most of African continent south of the Sahara – in the mountains of India

Physical (Unique) Features n African – gray with black – smooth heads – tusks n Asian – brown with black – small ears – 2 bumps on head – no tusks or very small n 7 to 10 feet tall n 10 to 27 feet long n weighs 4 to 6 tons n wrinkles in skin n long nose (trunk) n 4 legs

Food n 300 pounds of food a day n 16 hours a day n Vegetarians – twigs, grass, fruit, bark, figs, raspberries, plums

Predators n One main enemy – humans: kill for their tusks n wild dogs, coyotes, crocodiles, lions, tigers, & hyenas attack when elephant is a baby, alone, or sick

Interesting Facts n females are in charge n foot does not make a sound when they walk n pick food up and drink water with trunk n it’s nose is a better smeller than most dogs n life cycle: baby- adolescent-adult
