California Integrated Waste Management Board 4 Concerns with MOU Measurable collection goals and performance standards be customized for each state and based on significant increase above that state’s baseline Alternatives on how to revise/improve system if goals are not met should be specified Voluntary system: need clarity on retailer involvement, level playing field

California Integrated Waste Management Board 5 Next Steps CIWMB will continue to press for specific measurable collection & performance goals Comprehensive evaluation of MN Project led by US EPA Lessons learned from Demo Project will be used to improve system Rolls out to OR, WA, VT in July 2009 California in July 2010

California Integrated Waste Management Board 6 MOU Options MOU is not ideal; but represents best current process to move Paint Stewardship forward Board staff recommends Option 1: sign the MOU (accompanied by statement of concerns) to continue Paint Product Stewardship Initiative forward through December 2010.
