Where they were ●Were located across the United States during Civil War. ●Many became Americans when the U.S. expanded its boundaries ●Forced to choose between the confederacy and the union.

Hispanics in the south ●In the Southeast, hispanics supported the Confederate cause. ●Gulf Coast region of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana ●Mainly planters with plantations or businessmen in Mobile and New Orleans ●Slave owners ●Many were involved with the local military ●Influenced by Confederates to secede from union

Hispanics in the North ●Many came from Philadelphia, New York, and Boston ●Best way to become “American” was to join the army ●Many joined in large groups ●Faced racial prejudices ●Had come from Puerto Rico, Spain, and Mexico.
