What Is The Expected Gain Formula?

A method to recognize schools that are making gains even though the school has not met targets yet for QPA, for one or more years in: Reading Math Science History/Government Writing

FORMULA APPLIES TO ALL STUDENT GROUP SCHOOL CHOOSES TO USE FORMULA KSBE DETERMINES PERCENTAGE FOR INCREASE QPA REGULATION 91-31-32 (b) (1-4) QPA REGULATION 91-31-32 (b) (1-4)

# below standard X % gain + #meeting standard = Target Percentage 36/112 = students meeting standard Students tested or 32% 76 x.04 = students not meeting standards X sample expected gains – rate of 4% Conditionally Accred. To Accred. On Improvement 2 consecutive years of Improvement Peer Review Integrated Plan This number changes with KSDE approval

Who Is Eligible ? Does not meet the QPA performance target(s) for one year (on watch) Accredited on improvement Not accredited Submits an Integrated Improvement Plan Participates in a KSDE sponsored technical assistance peer review of their plan This formula does not apply to Title I improvement status.

Why Would A School Use This Formula? Another opportunity to show growth!!!

Expected Gain Impact on Title I Improvement Status Does not impact Title I Improvement Status for NCLB. It only applies to Kansas QPA accreditation - A school in corrective action for Title I could be “accredited on improvement” for QPA Schools are encouraged to use the formula, because of its impact on state accreditation

Schools on Improvement Years 1 & 2: Training Date: August 26 OR 27 Where: Salina Webster Conference Center Time: 7:30—8:30 registration 8:30—4:00 Meeting This mandatory training is designed for teams of five from district/schools in years 1 or 2 of school improvement. District/school teams can choose which day they attend, but need to attend as a team on the same day. Team participants should be from the District/School Improvement Team: administrator/principal, instructional coach, reading and/or math teacher, SPED teacher, ELL Teacher, etc... What to Bring: Laptop School Data Team of Five Register by : Wednesday, August 12 Contact person: Donna Mathis, 785-296-3702
