Alabama Next Generation Emergency Network Alabama Chapter of NENA – April 22, 2010

 Emergency CallWorx – Craig Dollar  SolaCom – Tony Parrott  Alabama Supercomputer Authority - Randy Fulmer  Ryan Public Safety Systems  Florence City Schools  Elmore County 9-1-1  Shelby County 9-1-1

 Use a private IP network to deliver 9-1-1 calls.  Current project = $1.9million  ½ Federal Grant & ½ Local (ECD) Funding  Wireless Board + Excess Phase II = ECD match  ASA connects ECDs to AREN  Alabama Research & Education Network  Minimum T1 - 10Mbs where available  Provide “black box” for non-IP ready PSAPs  Wireless Board – Managing the Grant

 Actual 9-1-1 network will not use the Internet  Nice to know we could as a last resort…  Done to save $ and time  Calls generated today are “tricked”  We have to get them into the test network  CallWorx position is via server at Shelby  Guardian position is via server in Chicago  Conduct several call path / failure scenarios

 9-1-1 Call to Elmore County  “Black Box” converts IP to CAMA for Synapse  Call Taker determines problem is in Florence  How do we handle cross LATA today?  “Black Box” converts to IP for AREN  “ROUTER” sends call to Florence  9-1-1 Call rings at Florence Callworx

 9-1-1 Call to Shelby County via IP  Call Taker determines problem is in Florence  Direct IP connection to AREN from CallWorx  CallWorx “knows” to transfer via IP to extension  Simulates primary PSAP with secondary  Shelby Transfers call to Florence - CallWorx  Cross LATA again  Could just as easily transfer to Elmore / Legacy

 9-1-1 Call to Florence Guardian  Call Taker transfers to Florence CallWorx  CallWorx decides it is really Elmore’s Call  Caller is transferred to Elmore  Could just as easily be transferred again

 9-1-1 Call to Guardian  Call Taker determines this is a wide area event  Dam break, explosion, nuclear issue, etc  Does a “Transfer” to CallWorx & Elmore  Could be any number of locations

 Guardian has a network “issue”  9-1-1 Call for Guardian is made  ROUTER detects IP network “issue”  Call is routed to CallWorx (Guardian specified CallWorx as their backup)

 Call routed automatically  ASC initiates a ticket on the IP connection
