5 DEVELOPING PARTNERSHIPS This Year’s Achievements Progress is being made with Government Ministries and Departments. Progressive meetings have been held with the Premier, Ministers of Environment & Sport, Education and Culture and Social Rehabilitation. The Premier is very interested in the Award and how he and his Government may assist in helping the programme to grow A draft Memorandum of Understanding has been issued to the Ministry of Education and we anticipate presenting one to the Minister of Environment and Sport in the near future Active talks with the Commissioner of Prisons have also been undertaken Aims for 2008/09 Continue to approach like minded youth organizations and agencies who will deliver the Award to their membership Continue to approach local and global agencies who influence governments and policy Continue to approach Government as we feel our Programme fits within their mandate and will help them deliver on their Throne Speech and it addresses some of the social issues of Bermuda The Ministry of Culture & Social Rehabilitation is a Ministry we really need to get deeply rooted into considering the social environment within Bermuda and we are working extremely hard to make this partnership come to fruition.

6 RAISING THE PROFILE This Year’s Achievements Developing partnerships in progress Increase in participation 2007/ 2008 saw a great deal of hype surrounding the Award Programme New Patron – HE Sir Richard Gozney KCMG New Director – Mrs. Erica Smith New Chairman – Mr. Kenneth Bartram First ever alumni event held First ever golf challenge held An increase in news articles/ stories 100 participants participate in Catlin End to End Fund-Raising event with backpacks First Award Ceremony on City Hall Steps with Town Crier, City Mayor, Premier and Governor all playing an active role in it Telephone and address listing published in national phone book white and yellow pages. Should be online in the yellow pages once the website is updated Shared office space Aims for 2008/09 Raise funds to sustain the position of National Director Promote the Award so that it is easier to develop partnerships and raise funds Increase participation in the Award Programme through extending the Award to new partners Strengthen the structure and ignite Alumni to promote sustainability of the Programme Re-develop the website and officially launch it Promote Gold Award Ceremonies Public recognition of Award Leaders Public profile of Award participants and leaders – past and present Regular News letter September, January and May each year to not only be distributed amongst Leaders, but participants and sponsors. It will need to be linked to website Produce local promotional materials such as leaflets, banner, videos 3X Award Ceremonies in 2009 Continue media blitz

7 STRENGTHENING THE STRUCTURE This Year’s Achievements Strategic planning is in the process A review of our Constitution was completed in 2007 with another review set to soon take place, so that our Constitution reflects what we have and what we want. Award Council has grown and perhaps will grow even more 1x Award leader attended training in Trinidad in 2007 1 x Award leaders will be attending expedition/ Award training in St. Lucia this summer Our Expedition Chairman will attend training to refresh/upgrade his skills Aims for 2008/09 We are looking to have a local training course in the ensuing months Regional Director to visit Skills section workshop Service section workshop Physical recreation workshop Residential section workshop Bring on new Council members or friends of the Council Review Award Constitution to reflect what is going on in the Award Programme Restructure the Council Hire new National Director We want to empower young leaders and facilitate opportunities to share best practice Activate our Alumni so that they would become active in the Programme once again

8 ASSURING THE QUALITY This Year’s Achievements Award Leaders meeting held in October 2007 with reference to Expeditions in Bermuda An extensive survey was just completed which speaks to all six of our pathways Strategic Planning Sessions in May 2008 Award Leaders meeting in June 2008 with reference to indifferences in the Programme in Bermuda Aims for 2008/09 Continue making sure that the delivery of the Programme is the same in Bermuda as it is around the world, so that the essence of the Award is preserved and not forgotten in the effort to increase numbers. We want to reach our full potential Through ongoing workshops on skills, physical recreation, expeditions, community service we will focus on delivering a quality programme

9 EXTENDING THE AWARD This Year’s Achievements We are currently active at: 1.The Berkeley Institute 2.Bermuda High School for Girls 3.CedarBridge Academy 4.‘De Navigators’ 5.Mount St. Agnes Academy 6.Saltus Grammar School 7. Warwick Academy Aims for 2008/09 Strengthen what we have through the schools by offering it as a quality Programme Traditionally we have targeted the schools and the uniform organizations, but our intention to is to extend this programme through the many Government Ministries Also our intention is to bring back some of the older groups such as the Sea Cadets, Police, Scouts, Girl Guides etc. which faded out, but are still interested in partnering with the Award Programme.

10 RAISING SUPPORT This Year’s Achievements Additional revenue was raised through our 1 st Golf Challenge held at Mid-Ocean Golf Course Recipient of Catlin End to End Charity Event Aims for 2008/09 Continue to strengthen our relationships with our donors and potential donors Continue to develop our plan for growth 2 nd annual Golf Challenge to take place in October 2008

11 PROGRAMME SNAP SHOT 2007- 2008 An increase in enrollment over the last year Regular Monthly Council Meetings have taken place Awards gained are up – Although only two Presentations have been held over the last year instead of the traditional 4 [1 in June07 and the other in June08] No Award Leaders Workshop took place 1 st Golf Tournament went off very well Sale of 40 th anniversary T-Shirts are ongoing Golf shirt sales on going Website needs ongoing work, but has been launched again as we work toward making it more participant and all round user friendly AGM held in 2007 Constitution Reviewed New Executive Director hired [2007] New Chairman voted in [2007] New Patron HE Sir Richard Gozney [2007] Extensive survey of Award Programme carried out [1half 2008] Strategic Planning is well on the way Only one Award ceremony held in June 2007 125 recipients and 1 in June 2008 149 recipients 320 currently enrolled in the Programme with some 300 in the private schools and 20 from the public schools. Much work still needed to bring our public schools up to strength 15 Participants doing their Gold Expedition this summer [9 Wales, 5 Bahamas, 1 St. Lucia also 2 leaders going for training in St. Lucia]
