Where is Italy? Italy is a country in Europe. It has lots of villages, towns and cities. It is a very beautiful country with mountains and beaches, rivers and seas. They speak Italian, a very romantic language!

What is there to see? Italy has some very famous landmarks. The Leaning Tower of Pisa The Grand Canal The Colosseum

What do Italians like to eat? Italy is famous for lots of different foods:

What is the capital city? The capital city of Italy is Rome. If you visited Rome today you would see lots of ancient ruins and modern buildings which are all very beautiful yet very different. Here are some of the famous modern buildings and ancient Roman sites

This is the building in the centre of Rome called “IL Vittoriano.”It has a statue of Victor Emmanuel II, the first King of Italy. Visitors can climb the steps to have a good view of the city.

This is the Trajan Forum and markets. It was a huge shopping and trading place in Roman times, a bit like our shopping centres today. It is in the main street of Rome city today.

This is the Colosseum, Rome’s most famous ancient building. In ancient Rome gladiators would fight here in front of the Emperor.

This picture shows the inside of the Colosseum with all the ruins of the amphitheatre.

This is the ruins of the Roman forum where the ancient Romans lived and traded. There are many ruins of their temples and houses.

This is the Pantheon which was a very important Roman temple. Today it has been turned into a church.

This is one of Rome’s most important buildings. It is St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. This is where the Pope comes and speaks to the people on special occasions.
