4 SOME OF N.O.W’S FOUNDERS

5 Rosa Parks: The Montgomery Bus Boycott On December 1 st, 1955, a white man decided he wanted to sit in Rosa Parks’ seat. Rosa Parks was an unknown seamstress and had a hard day at work so she decided she was not getting out of her seat. This led to Rosa getting arrested and fined. This incident led to the Montgomery Improvement Association. This group initiated a city-owned bus boycott which lasted for 382 days. This group was led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who at the time was a young pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. The boycott grabbed the attention of the world and the Supreme Court decided to get rid of her fine and racial segregation of public transportation.

6 N.O.W: National Organization for Women  Current Priority Issues:  Constitutional Equality Amendment, Reproductive Rights, Racism, Lesbian Rights, Violence Against Women, and Economic Justice The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. Since our founding in 1966, N.O.W's goal has been "to take action" to bring about equality for all women. N.O.W activists do extensive work and bring lawsuits. They also organize mass marches, rallies, and non-violent civil disobedience. NOW's actions have established the organization that put more women in political posts; increased educational, employment and business opportunities for women; and enacted tougher laws against violence, harassment and discrimination.

7 ROSA PARKS AND N.O.W  Rosa Parks and N.O.W have no direct connection but they both helped and continue to help woman get the rights and equality they deserve.
