2 Bean shape structures behind abdominal wall that are 4-5 inches long Three main regions: cortex, medulla, and sinus The cortex and medulla contain nephrons which form urine In the sinus are minor and major calyces that collect urine from papillary ducts and deliver to ureters Filters waste that would otherwise be toxic to cells KIDNEYS

3 Ureters are long muscular tubes that transport the urine from your kidneys to your bladder The ureters are critical organs to the urinary system They are about 8 to 10 inches long Located at the central portion of each kidney URETERS

4 Urinary bladder is a hollow muscular organ that stores urine The inferior part of the bladder contains three openings that form a triangle called the trigone The two posterior openings are called the ureteral openings In an average adult human the bladder can hold up to 1/3 of a quart of urine Found in most vertebrates other than birds URINARY BLADDER

5 Urethra is a tube like structure that carries urine from the urinary bladder to the outside of the body Urethra sizes differ between males and females URETHRA
