What is Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) ? Desktop Workload (OS, Apps, Data) 10 Centralize the storage and execution of a desktop workload (OS, apps, data) on a virtual machine in the datacenter Presentation of the UI via a remote desktop protocol (such as RDP or ICA) to client devices

Why Centralize with VDI? Limitations of VDI Multi-tier Deployment architecture requires sophisticated IT “Always on” network connection required to access desktops Infrastructure and Bandwidth User Experience Cost No network access means no access to desktop, and hence unsuitable for offline mobile use. Video / audio / USB device performance is not as good as physical desktop Incorrectly sized VDI implementations may result in poor user experience VDI provides better flexibility but not reduced TCO versus PCs Organizations may need additional server hardware, storage hardware and software for VDI VDI is just ONE of the many technologies available for desktop optimization.
