Classroom Demonstrations Are your students getting all they should from them?
2
Does the presentation of a demonstration affect its effectiveness? If students are required to predict the outcome of a demonstration and discuss their predictions with one another before the demonstration, they think more actively about the demonstration and its explanation, and have opportunities to discover inconsistencies or weaknesses in their own thinking.
3
Student Participation Students need to be active in and during your classroom demonstrations. Here are some tips: they motivate the student, they promote interaction between the student and the teacher, and they enrich the collaborative environment by providing great discussions amongst students. Secondly, they help students to focus on the big idea.
4
All demonstrations can easily be turned into inquiry based classroom activities. If you have the materials so that students can do each demonstration as an inquiry based unit, they will enjoy it, retain it, and be able to explain it at the end of the unit.
5
Get Students hooked by allowing them to come up with investigatable questions. Eg: Which surface has the most friction? What happens when I mix vinegar and baking soda? How does air pressure a balloons ability to be blown up?
