Resource-Based Learning "The role and responsibility of the school library lies in the development of resource-based programs that will ensure that all the young people in our schools have the opportunity to learn the skills that will enable them to become competent users of information " - Canadian School Library Association Prince of Wales Secondary School Library

Cooperative Program Planning and Teaching (CPPT) Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
13
Cooperative Program Planning and Teaching (CPPT) (Yes, we really mean it!) In high school, it is essential for students to master the processes of accessing and using information so that they can apply these skills after they graduate. We can work together to develop projects/units to ensure that students use resources in more effective ways. CPPT allows for a discussion on goals, objectives, information skills, content, unit introduction and conclusion, student groupings, teaching strategies and learning activities. Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
14
WHY WORK ALONE? Come and talk to us before you begin planning your unit/assignment/project. We’d like to ensure we have the resources you need (we may even need to order resources!). We will need to organize resources prior to your visit. We will need to book the library for your visit. We can teach and supervise the students together! Let’s share the workload! Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
15
You really don’t have to work alone! We can learn from each other – creative learning activities and teaching strategies, evaluation and assessment practices. Students can receive more individual attention with two or more professionals working with the group. Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
16
What the experts are saying! “ Collaboration between teacher and teacher-librarian leads to student achievement”. -Jan Hylen “Academic achievement is higher in schools where the teacher-librarian engages with classroom teachers to collaboratively plan and teach curriculum programs, which integrate information literacy skills.” -Carol Koechlin Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
17
Let’s talk about PLAGIARISM! “Prevention, not detection, is the best way to reduce plagiarism”. “In this Information Age, accessing information and culling out the significant material is a necessary skill to be learned”. -Michael P. Freedman Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
18
What people are saying about PLAGIARISM… “The higher the level of student engagement and creativity, the lower the probability of plagiarism”. - Doug Johnson “The schools that are most successful in preventing or limiting student plagiarism are those that place as much importance on the process as on the product”. -Mary Ellen Scribner Prince of Wales Secondary School Library
19
Avoiding Plagiarism: How we can help We can help with “front-loading” information sessions on how to avoid plagiarism. We can offer support throughout the process. We are an extra pair of eyes.
