Purpose of this Meeting o Presentation - History of Foundation o Explain the Required Process of forming an Independent School District o Describe Components of Feasibility Study o Describe the Proposed Sherwood School District Boundaries o Request Donations – Immediate Need o Respond to Comment/Question Cards

o Resolution 10-2013 by Sherwood City Council o Foundation Members Appointed by Mayor Virginia Hillman o July 2013 – held 1 st Meeting and Identified a Feasibility Study as its Key Project o September 2013 - 501c3 Application Submitted to the IRS o October 2013 – Public Forums History of Foundation

Requirements of Existing Laws - A.C.A. §6-13-1500 et seq. o New District must have 4000 students o PCSSD must be left with at least 4000 students o New District must be created with students from only one (1) district o PCSSD must have at least 15,000 students the year “prior to” detachment

Requirements of Existing AR Laws con’t o New District must present a “petition” to State Board of Education o Community must conduct an “election” of all qualified electors that reside in the proposed district o Creation of a New District shall not affect “desegregation” efforts of either district

Feasibility Study o Independent Study o Cost of operating proposed district (tax base, debt service, division of assets) o List of assets to be transferred to proposed district o Boundaries of the proposed district o Effect on court-ordered desegregation for both districts o Petition signed by 10% of voters in proposed district

Ways to Contribute o Donations to fund the Feasibility Study and to support the campaign to form a Sherwood School District - $5.00, $5,000 or $ ????? o Seeking a Total Sherwood Commitment o Volunteer to solicit donations and obtain signatures for the petition at appropriate time o SPREAD THE WORD
