2 Admissions Requirements at Oklahoma Baptist University Important Student Requirements In order to attend Oklahoma Baptist university, the person applying must have a weighted high school GPA of at least 3.00 or be in the upper half of their class ranking,. Another condition is having an ACT composite score of at least 20 or a recentered SAT of at least 950. The application deadline is August 1. Freshmen with be limited to an enrollment of 13 hours for their first semester. They also may be required to enroll in all or part of an enrichment program as a part of the 13-hour load.

3 Student Body Demographics at Oklahoma Baptist University As of the 2013 fall enrollment, there were 754 men and 1177 women for the full-time students. The part-time students had 99 men and 166 women. Of both types of students combined, there were 555 white men and 886 white women. They had 38 men and 57 women who were Hispanic/Latino. For those who were black or African American, there were 52 men and 51 women. The 2015 stats are 41% male and 59% female.

9 Campus Safety/Criminal Activity Since 2010, there have been 8 burglary offences on campus. On-campus student housing has had 7 burglary offences. In non- campus buildings, there has been only 1 burglary offence. There have been no arrests on campus, in student housing, or on non- campus buildings.

10 Tuition and Fees The tuition for the 2014-15 school year is $20,600. The fees are $2,200. Room and board is $6,520. The total cost of going to Oklahoma Baptist University for the 2014-15 school year is $29,320.

11 Where to Live While Attending Oklahoma Baptist University While attending OBU, if you are unmarried and under 21 you must reside in the University’s housing. OBU offers a residence center for men, two residence center for women, and two dormitories for women. They also offer apartments. If you get sick, you are not allowed to stay on campus.

13 The History of OBU’s Founding Oklahoma Baptist University was founded in 1910. The State Baptist Convention in 1906 appointed a commission to make plans for a Baptist university. A board of trustees was elected in 1907. The university became official on February 9. 1910. The opening date was in September of 1911. The City of Shawnee contributed the original 60- acre campus and the first building, called Shawnee Hall, which opened in 1915.

14 History of Oklahoma Baptist University In 1912, the first graduating class of OBU was made up of nine students. In 1917, the women’s dormitory, Montgomery Hall, was finished. In 1918, the campus was quarantined from October 11 to November 6 because of the influenza epidemic of 1918. In 1920, the first Harvest Queen was elected. In 1920, the school name was changed from The Baptist University of Oklahoma to The Oklahoma Baptist University.

15 Scholarships Freshmen are able to get academic scholarships, full-tuition scholarships, riddle scholarship, and super summer scholarship. Returning students can only get the band award, and transfer can only get the riddle scholarship.

16 The Town’s Weather The monthly averages have a range for the year from 51°F as the lowest temperature to 93°F as the highest temperature.

17 National Ranking Oklahoma Baptist University has been rated as one of the top 10 regional colleges in the West by U.S. News and World Report for 23 years. It has also been Oklahoma’s highest rated regional college in the U.S. News rankings for 21 years.

18 Facts About OBU The current president is Dr. David Wesley Whitlock. Who is the 15 th president. As of the fall 2014, they had 1,979 people enrolled from 42 states and 30 countries. 117 faculty members. The student to faculty ratio is 16:1. Over 97% of students receive some kind of financial aid.

19 Campus Chapel The chapel is where students, faculty, and staff go every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Chapels are held throughout the year on Mondays and Fridays. Every other Thursday they meet at Canterbury, which is an off campus time for worship and fellowship. They do Saturday in the Park to worship. It is held the first weekend of the fall semester at Woodland Park in downtown Shawnee. The FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, meets every Wednesday at 9 p.m. in Noble Complex.
