2
SAC Aircraft Build Survey Aim – Seek feedback from club members Should we build an aircraft? Which aircraft? Interest in mentoring/assisting Interest in flying completed aircraft Results – 29 responses from 67 members
4
Should the SAC build an aircraft? Comments (9) – Should the club own an aircraft? (3) – Buy a completed aircraft (3) – Great idea (3)
5
Should the SAC build an aircraft? Should the club own an aircraft? Large commitment for a small number of true beneficiaries Some concern about difference between being a club for aviation enthusiasts and a club owning and operating an aircraft with associated operational, administrative, liability and financial responsibilities. Before I can comment I would like to see a business model for the acquisition, operating and maintenance costs as well as customer base and any other benefits that may be relevant
6
Should the SAC build an aircraft? Buy a completed aircraft If SAC want's an aircraft, purchase secondhand & hire & fly to members 2 as-new Sonex currently on sale for price of kit. Individual owner project desirability
7
Should the SAC build an aircraft? Great idea Stated aims are straightforward and therefore easy to enunciate to others for publicity purposes. An RAAus magazine article would be worthwhile reporting progress throughout. Great project to foster, educate and mentor young people The aims are ideal, we should take a punt.
9
Sonex the best choice? Comments (14) – Unsure (6) – Alternatives (5) – Agree (3)
10
Sonex the best choice? Unsure – Undecided – Don't have the knowledge to comment. – Don’t have enough detail of relative merit for informed comment. – Partly Completed Project? – Leading statement, should be given a choice of researched aircraft re all the reasons stated above. – Limited load capacity for trips.... There are too many good aircraft for sale CHEAP at the moment to build one...IMO
11
Sonex the best choice? Alternatives – Note - If the Sonex is best value for money etc - yes What other choices are there for kit built sheet metal airframes? – RV12 or another aircraft with a Rotax engine – Did you consider the CH701 or 750 – Does it cost less than an RV 12? I'm sure you checked. – Savannah
12
Sonex the best choice? Agree – Have followed Sonex for years and have looked over several finished kits, like Lynn Jarvis' award winning version. Support seems good too. – Strong support group and cost effective – Seems reasonable if cost an obvious factor
