Here’s me in a nutshell I choose this color of slide to start off my biography because I don’t think I’m a dynamic person. I think I have room for improvement in terms of making my life more interesting with the use of technology. I grew up in an East Indian home filled with curries, silk outfits, trips to England to visit the family, and don’t forget guilt trips and expectations. I’m a child of the 80’s. Corded phones, ghetto blasters, watching video hits after school to catch a Corey Hart video to record on my VHS tape and to press “record” on my tape recorder so I’d have the song “sunglasses at night”. I went to an all girls high school in Regina called Marian High School, yes, I’m one of those girls. Cut loose in University to take per-pharmacy courses, as my parents wished, and then transferred to Nursing, as I wished. I graduated with my BScN in 1995 and began my nursing career in the areas of General Surgery, Burn unit, and Emergency.

MY HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGY Well besides the VHS and ghetto blaster days I did move relatively in sync with the rest of the world in terms of incorporating email and word processing into my life. The rest has been forced upon me. I joined Facebook in 1997 only because my youngest child was sick and I had to move to Edmonton so she could be cared for at the Stollery Hospital. My friends wanted me to keep in touch by a large update engine instead of emailing. My phone is an Android HTC. When I went to get “a phone”, the sales guy asked what features I was looking for in a phone. I said “well I want to be able to call home and have my kids call me if they need me in case of emergency”. Ya, you can imagine the look I got. I learned to text probably just over a year ago. I’m just learning the abbreviation. LOL! The extent of my teaching at SIAST has been “traditional” methods of teaching….hey that’s how I learned it…..and I turned out ok!

The kids’ influence on my social media journey Bottom line: They already know more than me!! IPODS (lost chargers constantly?) Face time (every moment?) Mine Craft (is it mind craft or mine craft?) Instagram (I joined to keep in the loop of all their pictures and posts)

What do I want to accomplish in this class? Instead of traditional Power Points, story telling, and lecturing….” I want to transform my “boring” Pharmacology course into a dynamic exciting course that has lineups of students wanting more… I want to learn from you, my classmates as to what you like, what social media does for you and your learning, and maybe, just maybe, integrate it into my life…. Thanks for reading!
