Standardisation activities n Update u There are currently 156 Standards Committees F 44 Different subject groups e.g Temperature Standards, Documentation, Measurement Transducers etc. F 4 Committees working with IEC Technical Committees. (ISA administer the U.S Advisory Group for the IEC)

Standardisation activities F 14 Committee are to be cancelled –Technically obsolete –No Activity F 23 Committees are to be merged SP37.x series will be merged with the SP37 Committee – Measurement Transducers. SP82.x series will be merged with the SP82 Committee – Electrical and Electronic Instrumentation. SP98.01 will be merged with the SP98 Committee - Personnel Certification Standards Committee

Standardisation activities u There are currently 142 active committees. u With the mergers there will be 119 active committees.

Standardisation activities n Current Developments u Global Perspective F 12 Standards have currently been identified as being used world wide

ISO Technical Committees 10 & 65 SP88 - Batch Control Systems SP95 - Enterprise/Control Integration ISO TC184 SP99 - Manufacturing and Control Systems Security SP20 - Instrument Specification Forms

Standardisation activities u District 12 Perspective F One New Standards Project application has been made for a trace ability standard. This is currently being reviewed.

Standardisation activities n New Working Group under the SP18 Committee covering alarm system management and design. Volunteers required (working knowledge of EEMUA 191 would be and advantage!).

Standardisation activities n Encourage SP committees participation u How do we do this? 1) Find your area of interest from the standards committees list on www.ISA.org. www.ISA.org 2) Submit a request to join the committee from the contact stated. IT IS THAT EASY!

Standardisation activities n Encourage SP committees participation u Participation of District 12 members will help the ISA development of global standards and will reflect the influence that the countries in District 12 have in the global instrumentation community. u Campaign through Local Section newsletters to highlight how easy it is to get involved and to explain the advantages of District 12 involvement.

Standardisation activities n Promote ISA Standards u Key supplier of ISA Standards in the UK sold only 65 ISA Standards during 2003. Sales over the last 4 - 5 years were very low (Source: American Technical Publishers Ltd) u RTP informs that 20% of sales are outside of North America and Europe accounts for 9-10% of sales. Standardisation activities n Promote ISA Standards u Why is usage low? F International Standards IEC, ISO. F Local Standards BSEN, NF, DIN, CENELEC F Language

Standardisation activities n Promote ISA Standards u Identify the gaps in National and International Standards and develop the relevant ISA Standard to fill it e.g S20 Instrument Data Sheets, S5 Series for documentation and symbology etc u Where no ISA Standard exists, prepare a “New Standards Project Proposal”
