5. Today we are going to learn about conditions for children in Kenya and Uganda who want to go to school.

7. It’s very different from a typical home in Kenya

8. And a typical kitchen

9. And think about how you got to school today

10. In Africa almost all children walk have to walk to school It can take them over an hour to walk to school

11. And it can be a long way and very hot

12. And when they get to school the classrooms are falling apart

13. Children have to sit on the floor because there are not enough desks

14. Sometimes there are no classrooms so they have lessons under a tree

15. And if they do not have enough books they have to share or go without

16. Many children are taught in classrooms like this

17. Children in Africa are desperate to go to school and learn

18. Irine wants to be a nurse when she grows up

19. Why would it be hard for Irine to learn at school?

20. Lessons are cancelled and students sent home when it rains

21. Hard to hear if it is windy or raining

22. Hard to concentrate if you don’t have a desk and a chair to sit on

23. Cannot practice writing when you do not have any books

24. Would you want to go to school if it looked like this?
