Treble-Clef/ G-Clef And the staff
2
This is a staff. _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________
3
The staff has 5 lines and 4 spaces. We count them from the bottom to the top. 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4
4
In music each pitch (note) has a letter name. There are 7 letters in the musical alphabet.
6
The clef sign is placed at the beginning of the staff to tell us which set of notes is being used. The treble-clef/ G-clef tells us that we are using a higher pitched set of notes. It is used by higher pitched instruments like the violin, flute, or guitar. G The reason the treble clef is often called the G-clef is because it circles the G line.
