1 University For Life 2012

2  Every Friday children at Hunningley Primary School will get the opportunity to take part in a workshop and learn a variety of different skills.  This Prospectus lists the workshops that our staff will offer. It gives a brief description of the courses on offer and what pupils can expect to learn.

3  The art of beautiful writing  Learn a different style of writing called calligraphy (fancy writing)  Then you can create poems and cards for your family and friends.

4  Chess is one of the word’s most popular games  A game of thought, strategy and action  Learn how the pieces move and what they look like  Play against each other, enter a league and compete for Grand Master status!

5  COME ON! LET’S DANCE!  Learn your moves for the next school disco  Learn a variety of moves and the chance to strut your stuff  STREET DANCE – DON’T MISS!

6  It’s all about the MONEY, MONEY, MONEY  Making MONEY, MONEY, MONEY  Learn how about business and how to get rich...  £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

7  Try new healthy foods you may not have had before  Experiment with new recipes  Make meals that are nutritious, tasty and essential for good health

8  Sing along to some of you favourite songs – and some new ones as well  Build confidence and learn musical skills as you work towards a live performance  You don’t have to be an amazing singer – you just need to be ready to give it a go!

9  Do you want to know how things work? Are you good at designing things. Do you like to ask lots of questions?  Young Scientist could be for you. You will carry out experiments to find the answer to things like... ...Which way does the wind travel? How can you fix a leaking umbrella? Can worms smell? Or can you make a crystal?

10  We will understand hygiene and care of nails and learn about filing, shaping and painting and designing false nails using gems and transfers.  We will also be using these skills to file, shape and paint each other’s nails using gems and transfers.

11  Since ancient times, coats of arms were designed to distinguish between the two armies at war  Come and investigate the origins of heraldry and famous coats of arms. Research the meaning of symbols and mythical creatures used on them, and then design and make your own coat of arms  No Year 1

12 Photography is all about taking pictures Come and explore different methods of taking pictures, from digital to film We will look at what makes a great photograph and work towards displaying our work in a Photo Gallery

13  Do you like making things?  The workshop will engage and motivate you in the world of crafts  You will develop your knowledge, imagination and concentration.  Use a range of different materials to make loads of exciting things!

14  Create your own invention in our inventor’s workshop.  Research, plan & make a model of your own, brand new invention using resources from Wallace & Gromit’s “cracking ideas” website.  Choose from 3 categories: Gadgets, Toys or Mystery Object!

15  Do you ever wonder... Why the stars twinkle? What makes the earth shake? What your body is made of?  Find out all this and much more – Let’s investigate together

16  This course will be a fascinating introduction to art. We will explore...  The History Of Art from around the world  Colour mixing, paints and tones  We will study and evaluate paintings  We will also have a go at painting ourselves and at the end of the course, collect all our work together to form a small exhibition where we can display and evaluate our work.

17  Sewing is a skill for life – come and learn how to do it!  Learn about the equipment you will need  Learn how to do perfect cross stitch  Make something special for Mothers Day

18  The workshop is going to focus on getting fit and improving sports skills ready for the London Olympics  We will explore fitness and nutrition and why this is important to athletes and for life  We will learn about a number of different sports, develop lots of skills and play them together  We will compete in team games and competitions
