Key Points What data is collected and how is it used Data mining Tools DEMO When to use which tool What we have learned Q&A
3
What data do we collect? Demographics Free/Reduced data ELL status data via ACCESS testing Special Education data Household information Behavior information Truancy information Attendance information Health information Schedule information Classroom grade information Transcript information Credit Summaries Transportation information K screening data 6 Trait data (6 + 1 traits) in grades 3-12 WKCE performance level data (3,4,5,6,7,8,10) WKCE scale score data (3,4,5,6,7,8,10) PSAT/SAT/ACT Data DRA scores PK-12 Common Assessments And more…..
4
Don’t use data to look for excuses Focus on those items that are within your control Use data to help identify opportunities to change practice or conditions to improve student learning Identify responsibilities for action steps Remember that all students are yours, not just those in your classroom.

The results are primarily to give quality feedback to students Occurs after the teaching and learning process and provides evidence of achievement. The results are used to evaluate students for a grade or for system evaluation and improvement

What have we learned? It all starts with the curriculum (benchmarks) Purposeful design of data systems and quality data entry Use the right tool for the right job Must have SIS that leverages all data and can store/analyze/report on it Must have SIS that can provide standards based grading by teachers Must be able to retrieve data providing staffing if necessary to support this instructional process Technology should be the path, not the roadblock to instructional improvement!
