2. Technology Park Precinct (WI) GOAL:  To provide a Technology Centre that will encourage outside investors to establish laboratory/research facilities on island. RATIONALE:  Utilisation of a section at Quarantine Station that is no longer being utilised;  Attract off-island investment;  Research ability for possible industry development for the islands.

3. Technology Park Precinct (WI) (cont.) PROPOSAL:  Seek asset transfer of a section of Quarantine Station from the Commonwealth;  Make the facility available through long term lease agreements with possible industry investors. Ie Coconut Industry, Tuna Farm, Cheesefruit Industry;  Actively seek outside investors. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:  Rental from lease agreements  Private Investors  Regional Partnerships AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:  AQIS  Prospective Investors  Stakeholders

4. Environmental Waste Management Precinct (HI & WI) GOAL:  Compile and implement an Environmental Waste Management Strategy that reduces landfill and environmental impacts on island. RATIONALE:  Environmentally sensitive islands;  Freshwater lenses: limited land mass;  High financial burden to Council on managing waste disposal.

5. Environmental Waste Management Precinct (HI & WI) (cont.) PROPOSAL:  Involve all stakeholders to implement strategies to reduce the amount of waste being generated on island;  Establish recycling programs;  Implement strategies to dispose of waste that has minimal environmental impact to the islands;  Investigate opportunities that helps reduce the financial burden on Council and community in relation to Waste Management;  Implement education process to the community regarding waste management strategies;  Construct sheds at Waste Management sites to accommodate recycling equipment. i.e. can and glass crushers, shredders, mulcher.
