Rules and timelines Garrison command will be sponsoring Dr. Martin Luther Kings Birthday observance on 15 January 2008. This coloring contest is designed to bring awareness to Dr King, and the Civil Rights movement. This coloring contest is directed towards Preschool thru 2nd grade age children. In addition the following guidelines have been established for all other ages. 3-6th Grade: Free hand art & Short essay about Dr. King and Civil Rights 7-9th Grade: Free hand Art & 400 word essay. 10-12th Grade: Free hand art & 700 - 800 word essay. Frequently asked questions: Q: Why should we participate in this activity? A: Ethnic observances are an integral part of the commander’s equal opportunity program and readiness. Ethnic observances provide the commander the opportunity to enhance the human relations climate through increased unity and awareness Q: When and where do I turn this in? A: Deadline for all submissions is the 1 January, 2008. All work must be submitted to MSG Thompson (MANSCEN EO Office) Building 315. A: Yes, all work will posted throughout the FLW community, and be judged by the public. All submissions will also be posted during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King observance, which will be held on the 15th of January, 2008 1130-1300 hours in the Audie Murphy Club. Awards and recognition will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place art & essays for each age group.

Q: How will you know notify winners? A: Each submission must have first and last name and phone number of parent / guardian. In addition all art must have child’s first name and age. Q: Can Non Military family member children participate? A: Yes, Arrangements to visit FLW will be the parent’s responsibility in the event their child is designated as a recipient of an award or recognition.)
