Question: *H*H ow many triangles and polygons can I find in a six sided star? *P*P lan: *I*I plan to make a six sided star and trace it six times on a piece of paper. I took a picture of my paper and saved it on my computer. I copied the page into “paint”. I numbered each shape I found. For each triangle or polygon I find, I will out line them in different colors. I will make a chart of my findings. I will also use a protractor to measure my angles.

Jan 14 2008 Using the six sided star in the poster in class you must first determine how many total triangles of different sizes there are. Then show what other regular polygons are also found within the star. In your solutions I should find a chart showing how many of each type there are. You may also repeat the star pattern and color in different shapes to show your results. In your comment you should use geometric terms and measurements of angles. I should see a pattern in how many degrees are in each shape. Do you see the pattern? Can you make a conjecture about how many degrees are in a particular polygon? Mrs. Green’s directions

Degree of angles Rhombus- top was 120* on both vertex of the top and 60* at both vertex on the bottom. Triangle-(all triangles) All are equilateral triangles and all corners have a 60* angle. Diamonds- Two obtuse which are 120* and two acute which are 60*. Polygon- Two obtuse which are 120* and two acute which are 60*.

Comment I found that there is a lot of shapes in a six sided star. I also found that there are not too many big shapes compared to little shapes. I also saw that it takes a while to find all of them and right when you think your done you find another. I found out that most of the shape's totals were multiples of six. The number of polygons in a six sided star is 10 which is not a multiple of six. The large trapezoid has a hexagon in it and two extra triangles. The diamonds and the rhombus were the same measurements. They both had two 60* and two 120*, from that I noticed that 60*+60*= 120*!!! Each acute angle in the diamond and the rhombus is half the obtuse angles. Also with the polygon.
