4. Direct Objects Receives the action of the verb Find the verb and ask “who?” or “what?” The boy hit the ball. John found me in the morning.

5. Indirect Objects Receives the action of the verb Find the verb and ask “to whom?” “to what?” “for whom?” or “for what?” Josh sent me a package. We asked the teacher for a note.

6. Sentence Patterns Subject – Verb Subject -- Verb – Direct Object Subject – Verb –Indirect Object – Direct Object S-V S-V-DO S-V-IO-DO *A sentence with an indirect object MUST have a direct object!
