Journal Have you ever felt as if you were “caught between a rock and a hard place”- where you needed to make a choice between two courses of action and neither option seemed right? Write about this situation and what choice you made in the end. How did you know it was the right choice?

Theme: Love makes people do strange things Make a list of how people do strange things when they are in love (or think they are) Examples: While daydreaming about the person, someone puts their hat in the refrigerator or, someone hurts or ignores boyfriend/girlfriend over a rumor Conflict: Will discuss after reading Characterization: Based on her personality, which door does the princess signal to? Have this working in your mind as we read. Brainstorming time! Come up with ideas and themes.

Count off 1-3…then answer… 1. What conflicts does the young man have? Are his conflicts internal or external? Support your answers with details from the story. 2. What internal conflict does the princess have? Include specific lines from the text in your explanation. 3. Why is the princess’s internal conflict so important to the story?
