Agenda > Introduction > Ardagh QMS > Heavy Metals/Pb > Heat Resistant Glass Sorting > Cullet Drying > “Fines” and Related Issues > Challenges > Summary 2 Ed Purtill
3
Introduction > Ardagh Cullet Structure > Team Members and roles > Ardagh Quality Management System > Shareholding in Cullet Processors Ed Purtill 3

Heavy Metals Predominantly Pb > Pb in glass containers > Ardagh Approach - Lead Sorting is an Ardagh Mandatory Requirement from Jan 1 st 2014 - Depletion of Pb in Container Glass - Pb content in batch raw materials Ed Purtill 4
5
Scenario Pb99: 60% of recycled glass is cleaned from lead glass Scenario Pb77: 80% of recycled glass is cleaned from lead glass Scenario Pb55: 100% of recycled glass is cleaned from lead glass Depletion of Pb in container glass 5 Ed Purtill
6
Lead vs. Cullet Rate > Taking a furnace that frequently changes cullet rate and tracking the Pb content - Pb level tracks the cullet rate with the Pb increasing at a greater rate than the cullet rate - At very low cullet rates (see flint) then the Pb level is the same or lower than the cullet rate > Conclusion: Raw material has no impact to Pb level FlintGreen 6 Ed Purtill
7
Heat Resistant Glass Sorting > Impact of HR sorting in glass plant downtime 7 Ed Purtill
8
Fire Damage This fire happened in 2008 in Dongen. Ed Purtill 8

Cullet Drying Ardagh Perspective > Positives - More predictable throughput - More consistent quality > Negative - More small fraction cullet, difficult to sort - Ardagh test have shown that post drying much of the organics are concentrated in the fine fraction > 6% LOI, COD 45,000 > Huge Redox variation > Overall perception from Furnace Managers is positive! 9 Ed Purtill

Summary > Direct relationship between cullet rate and Pb > Pb Sorting is a Ardagh mandatory Requirement from Jan 1 st 2014 > HR sorting has had a positive impact in glass plants and in finished product > In general drying has a positive effect on cullet processing but it not without some challenges > “Fines” will continue to become more critical in terms of cullet quality and volume > Cullet quality requirements will continue to increase, meaning that the quality gap between cullet and virgin batch material must continue to close > Constantly looking at improvements that can be made to the QMS system - All feedback and ideas welcomed > Cullet Commodity Team are always available to discuss issues, concerns, process improvements and investments Ed Purtill 10
