The libraries are always thinking of new ways to provide interest in books and reading as well as Information Literacy in general. Some things work, some don’t, but we love to try something new!

Many a new book from the Box Tops collected like mad and 2 memorial funds this year; Chloris Stoll and Brie Carl’s uncle.

A continuation of Literacy Push! a monthly visit by Bondurant Community Library staff and I into the classrooms of kindergarten and first graders promoting vocabulary, nonfiction and silliness. Our 3 rd year.

The Anderson Library has many ‘pockets’ of great reading materials for early readers! JNF (Junior Non Fiction) JNF Balloon Books Beginning Chapter Books *Ch. R (Chapter Readers) *New this year

We celebrated National Library Week this year for the first time in a long time. Something about books, fun and food. You can’t beat it.

Bundling Books Baby! A new opportunity for staff. Bundles of Books delivered directly to your door that aid in whatever you are doing in your curriculum!

B-F MIDDLE SCHOOL Middle School Library of the projects.

A display of the Little Rock Nine – enrichment of the homeroom curriculum Life sized people. An attempt to make the situation and historical significance real to the students.

Our 2 nd Annual March Madness – A vote for your favorite book series! Free throw competitions aid in whittling down the list until only 2 series are left to choose between. (really a brainchild of Mrs. Braun)

All 5 th and 6 th graders received three weeks of Internet Safety instruction following their introduction to their own school email account. I think this has been highly successful.

The Middle School library has been weeded heavily in the nonfiction section. I mentioned this to the superintendent. I developed a proposal. I asked for $4,000 for new materials.

$4,000 means 355 new titles of mainly nonfiction delightful!

The HS Library tries to help students with… …editing papers …scholarship applications …finding books …struggling readers …disinterested readers …students looking for a quiet place to read or study “Motivate and work towards academic excellence”

Photos and displays of all students and articles in the Altoona Herald Index – Ongoing cool supportive activity

B-F Sportsvision – the library showed footage of home team sports before school in March in an effort to get kids to step inside the library and support school spirit – (Really a brainchild of Mr. Skinner)

HS Book Cart promo – a cart with a display of books will be wheeled into any classroom that requests it. Students can check out directly from the cart

Educator of the Year Award A funky bookshelf has been added to B-F Schools in honor or DeeAnn Johnson. New games are available for kids to play in the library. Urban parabands and Banangrams, chess and checkers sets were also purchased with the monies for the High School Library

B-F Little Free Libraries - Year 2

The B-F Libraries developed a B-F Library Advisory Committee this year. An instrumental part of material development, selection and connection with the Iowa Common Core. We will be ready for the Dept. of Ed visit next year.
