Lesson 33 Complex Sentences Complex Sentence = 1 ½ ideas, with a comma in between them Example = I separated the fighting gerbils, but not in time. Today we will learn to recognize and write our own complex sentences. 1 whole idea ½ idea

Complex Sentence Contains ONE idea, plus a fragment. My sister plays Barbies, by herself. There must be a comma to separate the 2 phrases

Complex Sentence We ate too many weenies at the beach, and got stomachaches.

Complex Sentence I love living in Redlands, even though it’s small.

Now you Try………. Write 5 complex sentences, which contain 1 ½ ideas each. You must use a comma to separate the independent clause from the subordinate clause. (= dependent clause) Example: My sister likes walking all the way to Gerrards, but not by herself. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

More Practice, Complex Write 5 complex sentences about your neighbors. Remember to include 1 independent clause + 1 subordinate clause. Example: My neighbor Leo always lets his dogs in our yard, which is rude. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
