ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Vacuum Sectorization: Not enough space for all sectorization-related components in the stripping area Radiation dose should be minimized for maintenance interventions on the injection dump area ACTION (TE/VSC) : determine alternative sectorization scenarios and evaluate impact on vacuum performance Stripping foil sector: initial baseline configuration completed

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Different options presented (Design Tech.Meet 03/07/2013)Design Tech.Meet 03/07/2013 Options # 4 & 5 chosen for followup Option 4 causes more dose @ intervention on downstream valves Option 5 foresees venting of dump at each maintenance TMP gate 2X SIP Dump BHZ162 OPTION 4 OPTION 5 TMP gate 2X SIP Dump BHZ162 BHZ11 Courtesy C. Pasquino ACTION (TE/VSC) : finalize impact evaluation on vacuum performance for two options Vacuum Sectorization: completed

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Results for pumping down times: (PSB Upgrade WG @ 19/09/2013 presentation)presentation Option 4: +2 hrs w.r.t. baseline Option 5: +4.5 hrs w.r.t. baseline Option 5 is new baseline (minutes)minutes NOTE: choice valid only if dump degassing stays similar to current estimation (i.e. Bulk SiC) ACTION (TE/VSC & EN/STI) : Study the impact of a sliced H-/H0 dump on the pumping down time for option 5 BASELINE Vacuum Sectorization: ongoing Courtesy J. Hansen NOTE: Option 5 has been studied w. Dump all @ 200C  conservative as average Tdump shall be lower

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Option 5: Integration ACTION (EN/MME) : evaluate integration for option 5 sectorization completed Courtesy L.Zuccalli

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Sectorization implemented Corrector magnet design ongoing. For the moment no integration issue foreseen. BHZ 162 is first constraint for correctors Min. distance between correctors and BHZ162 = 57mm Option 5: Integration COMMENTS??

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Option 5: Integration Equal system already present on PSB line (ref. Dwg. PSBHVI__00021) BHZ11 No integration issue foreseen. Bellow needed between valve and chamber (position errors)

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè System is attached to top of BHZ magnets, as for other PSB sectors Option 5: Integration BHZ162 No integration issue foreseen. Bellow needed between valve and chamber (position errors)

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Option 5: Integration Pumping system implemented

ENEN H- INJECTION: STATUS ON MECHANICAL DESIGN - VACUUM SECTORIZATION - BHZ162 CHAMBER MODIFICATIONS - DESIGN @ DUMP AREA - BHZ11 CHAMBER MODIFICATIONS PSB H- Injection - Design Technical Meeting – 3 rd October 2013 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Injection VS. BHZx : Joining BSWx BHZx Misalignment error to be accounted for, as could cause rupture of ceramic flanges Little space between components Vacuum maintenance: 12 mm axial compression for Ag gasket insertion Low transversal forces desired Intermediate edge-welded bellow. Company feedback (for our racetrack section): max misalignment error ±1.5mm

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Possible issue! ACTION: get final value of position error BHZ162 Chamber: Current Configuration Upstream Connection Downstream Connection (Injection) Chamber Fixation/regulation elements Pipe Hydroformed bellow Current alignment system not precise : connections position error>±2mm For the moment, further regulation would be obtained with deformation of semirigid hyperstatic element (undulated chamber). Ref. dwg: SI 3.49.1542 NOTE: chambers with bellows at both extremities are present on the PSB line

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè New bellow for sector valves Current bellow and small chamber removed due to new injection compatibility ACTION: modify fix./reg. system? Evaluate effects of regulation on semirigid element BHZ162 Chamber: Future Configuration Can modifications be done on current chamber in tunnel?...precise cut of chamber, weld in small spaces..  Baseline future BHZ162 : modifications to spare on surface Sector valves Future regulation ? NOTE: same considerations can be drawn for BHZ11 (sector at its exit, bellow present)

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Following dump review (18/04/2013), baseline configuration for dump is SiC bulk (PSB Upgrade WG 13/6/2013)dump reviewPSB Upgrade WG 13/6/2013 Baseline dump design status: SiC ACTIONS MME: Dump Design o cooling system o support system o eventual shielding Resistance of magnet to heating from dump ongoing

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Swelling of SiC at low dpa unknown  bulk option may suffer excessive damage (2-3 yrs expected life) New draft concept design shown (Design Tech.Meet 31/07/2013)Design Tech.Meet 31/07/2013 SiC slices + Ti slices SiC slices + Sic core in Ti Jacket Metal bulk (Al, Ti..) Dump design: new outcomes ACTION EN/MME : STI requests evaluation of feasibility and integration completed

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè Dump design: Integration proposals Edge-welded bellow on BSW4 side Δz = 54 mm Δz : max distance between downstream surface of red plate and downstream surface of dump Edge-welded bellow on BHZ11 chamber Δz = (15+70+15) mm Proposal 1 (Sliced dump) Proposal 2 (Metal dump) Δz = 54 mm

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè BHZ11 Chamber: Current & Future Configuration Current bellow (useable for sectorization) Future Edge-welded bellow, in case of metal dump NOTE: chambers with bellows at both extremities are present on the PSB line Metal dump case would add one manipulation to BHZ11 chamber Most probably done on surface Ref. dwg: SI 3.49.1215

ENEN 3/10/2013Marco Garlaschè CONCLUSIONS Evaluation performed on sector. option 5: feasible Also with baseline dump config. (bulk SiC) and whatever sector. option: -BHZ162 chamber needs to be changed (alignment issue + sector.) -following misalignement measurement, BHZ11 chamber may be changed  Need for alignment design? Integration of new dump proposals studied: -BHZ11 chamber needs to be changed for metal dump case ACTIONS: Sliced H-/H0 dump: concept. design & impact pumping down Current BHZx chambers: value of position error Future BHZx chambers: modify fix./reg. system? evaluate effects of regulation on semirigid element Baseline dump: design (cooling, support, shielding) resistance of magnet to heating from dump Need input: P LOSS temperatures Cooling on for chamber? Can magnet cooling absorb dump heat?
