3 Coffee Bread Recipe  1-3/4 cups sugar, plus more for sprinkling  3 packages dry yeast  1 tablespoon ground cardamom  ½ teaspoon salt  1 stick plus 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened  2-1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons milk  6-1/2 cups flour  3 tablespoons ground cinnamon  2 cups raisins  1-1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons chopped or slivered almonds  1 large egg

4 Coffee Bread  This is Swedish coffee bread. It looks like challah, a Jewish braided bread.
