The opening line of Twelfth Night by Shakespeare makes the connection between music and love. Music has a strong connection to emotions. Why do tunes in a major key such as Singing in the Rain sound cheerful while those played in a minor key like Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall, sound gloomy and depressing? Music and feelings The answer in part seems to be that major keys sound like excited speech whereas minor keys sound like slow speech. A fast, loud, jumpy rhythm sounds happy because it reflects human emotions. In the same way slow and quiet music mimics a sad and mournful emotion.
