5 Discussion paper themes/feedback Specialisations Stakeholders believe that the Certificate III should not allow for specialisations (other than ladies and men’s specialisations). It was generally agreed that specialisations should occur at the Certificate IV level Role of Salon Receptionist/Assistant Feedback revealed that the Certificate II is predominately a preparatory qualification

6 Discussion paper themes/feedback Salon management and creative leadership skills Feedback suggested pathways beyond a Certificate IV Trichology There is lack of support for the trichology qualification Environmental sustainability Water and energy usage, waste management, recycling and sustainable salon design were the identified ‘green skills’

7 Discussion paper themes/feedback Customer service Feedback suggests that consultation skills need to be expressed beyond what is currently in the training package Business knowledge There is strong support for hairdressers to develop knowledge in how they contribute to the business

8 Discussion paper themes/feedback Quality of training, including assessment Support for units that allow the integration of skills and focus on teamwork Strong support for tighter assessment guidelines, including facilities and equipment, industry requirements for assessors

9 Additional comments/issues Stakeholders are still concerned about the inadequate nominal hours attached to the Certificate III in Hairdressing which is impacting on quality delivery
