Product Lifecycle Management © 2003 IBM Corporation IMP Ltd. Customer Background –IMP, a UK-based company specialising in expanded polyethylene foam conversion, has designed and built a wide range of packaging solutions since 1981. –The range of applications for foam containment provided by IMP covers aerospace and automotive parts, as well as tool control and display cases. Business Challenges –Automotive market for parts repackaging pallets a key growth area but manual processes for data collection and design delivery impeded development process –CATIA is the system of choice for the majority of IMP’s customers –Microsoft Windows environment and affordability put previous, Unix-based versions of CATIA out of reach for small businesses like IMP Solution Implementation –CATIA Version 5 deployed in existing Windows environment –IBM Business Partner INCAT supplied training, support and advice for sharing data with Tier 1 suppliers and automotive manufacturers Benefits of Solution –Manual collection of parts data and delivery of packaging samples eliminated –Electronic data exchange with customers possible regardless of CAD system utilised –Faster response times –Enhanced communication and collaboration with customers on designs –Increased exposure in automotive market, contributing to predicted 150-200% growth of business

Product Lifecycle Management © 2003 IBM Corporation IMP Ltd. The Industry IMP, Ltd. produces expanded polyethylene foam for a wide range of packaging solutions. The foam containment is used for aerospace and automotive parts packaging and repackaging, as well as tool control and display cases. The Challenge Parts repackaging pallets for use on automotive assembly lines are a key growth area for IMP. However, existing manual processes for parts data collection and design delivery slowed the development process and hindered IMP’s ability to grow its business. The Solution IMP is deploying CATIA Version 5 in its existing Microsoft Windows environment to facilitate electronic exchange of design data with its customers and Tier 1 suppliers. CATIA allows IMP to exchange data regardless of the CAD system utilised by its business partners. The Customer Benefits Electronic data exchange with customers and suppliers has led to faster response times and improved communication and collaboration with customers. “Close collaboration with our customers gives us a clear advantage over our competitors. CATIA Version 5 will increase our automotive exposure and produce a growth of 150-200% in our business.” – Andrew Simpson, Managing Director, IMP Ltd

Product Lifecycle Management © 2003 IBM Corporation IMP Ltd. CATIA Version 5 facilitates collaboration, saving time and improving response to customers kkkkkkkk Manual processes impede growth IMP is a growing, UK-based, company providing expanded polyethylene foam packaging solutions to the automotive and aerospace industries. IMP products protect and organise delicate items on the manufacturing floor, minimizing the risk of loss and damage. But manual processes for collecting part data and delivering designs hindered the growth IMP aimed to achieve in the automotive market. Collecting the necessary data to design and develop repackaging pallets for use on automotive assembly lines meant visiting the customer site to physically measure the parts to be packed and then returning to deliver design samples throughout the development process. IMP knew these manual processes were slowing response time and impeding growth. “The CAD data for the component is available in electronic form and we knew we could eliminate unnecessary steps in the development process by utilising it directly,” said Andrew Simpson, Managing Director of IMP. “We are already expanding capacity to support the new expected level of business. CATIA Version 5 is a major tool in our expansion plans.” – Andrew Simpson, Managing Director, IMP, Ltd.
