Sounds and Music File types –.aiff = mac, traditional.wav = windows-made, bigger.mp3 = both, smaller, ‘will travel’ other…software-specific (.au; etc.)

Basic processes: - Download from Web - CAUTION – some not downloadable, but ‘stream in’, so can’t be added to custom presentations - Search for ‘genre +.wav files’ for sites allowing downloads - Can still edit and incorporate if.wav or.mp3 - Create your own sound files and manipulate them - CAUTION – watch file size! Keep recordings to short clips - Voice recording for customized message - music/sound authoring (over voice too ) - capture clips of sound & edit, from existing CDs/song files - export as.mp3 for smaller files & compatibility

Softwares: - Sound Companion ($70 – ish…) - Simple interface for students, easy to edit sounds - ftcpublishing.com to purchase or demo - can export as.wav or.mp3 - can see sound waves… - Audacity (FREE ) - little more complex looking, but same functionality - download free from audacity.sourceforge.net - ALSO download mp3 encoder (lame encoder – on network) - can export as.wav or.mp3 - can see sound waves…

- Garage Band - may already be in your district with license - more ‘music student friendly’ - export as mp3?? Or midi – which won’t embed in powerpoint or other multi-media softwares - Other? - Think – PURPOSE??? AUDIENCE??? - How will you share or combine sound with other media? - Is it customized for maximum connection?
