Assessment Writing What does it involve?
3
Aims of workshop: To explain the process through which Assessment Exemplars are developed To explore how this can be/already is embedded in Centres To examine how the process can be applied to integrate assessment of outcomes across Units
4
Assessment Exemplars: A Partnership SQA provides funding, training and oversees the process Centres provide the writers who usually do this work in their own time This process CANNOT be achieved without this partnership. Centre staff are the subject experts, without their support Assessment Exemplars would not be available
5
Writing Assessment Exemplars Writer: Gets to know the Unit Plans the assessment Selects Assessment Instrument Writes the Task Writes the Solution Writes the checklist Vetter: Checks: Task, Solution and Checklist That they match That they are valid, reliable and accurate
6
Writing Assessment Exemplars SQA: If Vetter is not an EV, Assessment is then sent to EV for checking Assessment Production Team: Finalise AE Publish onto secure website Centres: Check the Assessment Exemplar (IV process) Assess the Candidate Judge the evidence Arrange for re- assessment if necessary Carry out standardisation to check consistency of judgement
7
Assessment Exemplars: Partnership These are examples and Centres do not have to use them In fact, Centres are encouraged to write their own, particularly where they are attempting to integrate assessment ACROSS Units How can this model be embedded in Centres?
8
SUPPORT: Unit Specifications now focus on Evidence Requirements SQA Website - http://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/41294.html http://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/41294.html External Verification Visits: during transition will seek to be supportive; development visits available Centre Prior Verification facility
9
Planning to write an integrated assessment Two groups: – one will look at 2 outcomes across two IT Units – one will look at 2 outcomes across two theory based Units Each group will receive copies of extracts from 2 Unit Specifications to consider
10
TASK: Identify where evidence requirements can be assessed together (possible starting points are highlighted in bold) Identify how your centre could/has adopted SQAs Assessment Writing process Identify who would be involved Identify what would be the final product Identify timescales for the production of the Assessment
