3. Steps to Chartering and Reactivation 1. Create a target list of possible charters and reactivations. - Know the history of each school club. 2. With the help of the LTG/district board member, create an action plan for each targeted school. ₋ Inch stones and benchmarks 3. Establish a relationship with school administration. 4. Establish a relationship with an interested local Kiwanis club. 5. Find a student that is interested in building a CKI club.

4. Steps (con’t) 6. Begin on-campus recruiting. 7. Hold initial and secondary interest meetings 8. Establish a preliminary club board. 9. Cultivate club growth. Make sure that the club is meeting regularly. Make sure that the club is holding regular service projects. Make sure that the club has a relationship with Kiwanis. 10. Facilitate the official charter/reactivation process.

5. Other Tips  Create a club stoplight system (if feasible)  Communicate.  Engage.  Take your time.  Think quality, not quantity.  Educate prospective members.

Communicating with CKI and District Leadership  The International Office can assist through: Provide advice to assist in your club building situation Respond to college or university questions regarding the CKI program Provide materials to assist with the new club building process Process charter materials Respond to questions about charter status and dues payment records

Conversations with District Leadership  District Leadership are the “boots on the ground”  They can provide area-specific information  They have the relationships with Kiwanians who will be helpful in the process  They can also provide member education and officer training  They can help the club with initial organizational meetings

17. Club Satellites  What is a club satellite? " For cases in which one (1) CKI club is active, students from another institution of higher education within fifty (50) miles of the nearest chartered CKI club may be able to be recognized as a club satellite." Article 6. Section 5 of the International Bylaws as of 10/1/12

Establishing a Satellite Club  Contact local CKI club to build and maintain relationship.  Contact Kiwanis chapter to discuss option of having a satellite club.  Contact the Office of Student Life at your institution to see if any guidelines need to be followed according to institutional policy.  Find an adviser for the satellite club.

19. Dues  District dues are paid through the chartered club.  No international dues are paid when a club is recognized as a satellite.

20. Working with Satellite Clubs  Maintain constant communication.  Plan visits between the active CKI club and the club satellite.  Extend this relationship to Kiwanis as well.  Facilitate socials, joint community service projects, meetings, banquets, etc.
