19. What we are doing   Targeted teaching.   Test technique.   Mental test practice.   Practice SATs.   Intervention for pupils not on target.   Revision guides / practice papers.   Revision week.

20. Taking the tests   In maths sets with usual maths teacher.   Equipment : pen, pencil, rubber, ruler, protractor, mirror, tracing paper   Parts of questions can be read to pupils.   Spellings do not matter as long as they can be understood.   Readers can be used in some circumstances

21. How can I help?   Helping pupils with revision and practice s sats papers   Basics – tables, place value, 4 rules, time, estimating answers, maths vocabulary   Encourage careful reading of questions and checking of answers in homework.   Revisewise website – BBC   Mymaths website

22. And finally……………… Get the tests into perspective: They are important and it is a good opportunity to consolidate and put to the test all the skills they have learnt so far. But There is no need for children (or their parents) to worry about the tests. Children can only do their best. They will be given plenty of opportunity to practise for the tests in school. Carrying on with their normal extra curricular activities will generally be good for them.
