3 The Job Hunt! Half the battle of job hunting is finding job openings!  Step 1: HAVE A PLAN!  List companies where you would like to work  Step 2: Prepare a resume  Step 3: Contact the company  Find out who hires the employees  DIRECT CONTACT IS THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT ABOUT JOBS!

4 What is an employment agency? It is an organization which matches employers to employees.  Fee paid - means that the employer pays the fee to an employment agency, not the person seeking the job. Usually highly experienced professionals will benefit from “fee paid” services. NOTE: Entry level job seekers are usually expected to pay fees at an employment agency. Before paying a fee, first check with a school counselor or program coordinator. The state of Texas also has a public employment office that is free.

5 Resume – a document that contains a brief history of a person’s education, work experience and other qualifications. **Reading resumes’ are a quick and easy way for an employer to learn about you.

6 The Objective is the first heading in a resume. It usually gives the employers an idea of the type of job for which they are applying.

7 Tips for resumes’  Don’t forget to list part-time or volunteer jobs. The more experience you have the better.  Resumes should always look professional and free of errors.

8 Applications Employers use the application to screen job applicants. If they are not filled out neatly and completely, they probably will not make it past the first screening. ALWAYS: Read the entire form carefully before filling out anything on the application. NEVER: Include negative comments about a former employer. Tip- If a question does not apply to you, simply draw a line through the space so they do not think you skipped it or write “does not apply.”
