Declarative/Procedural Knowledge Does this resource meet identified knowledge requirements Yes NO D1 – that Pythagoras’ Theorem is applied to solve simple problems involving right-angled triangles. This resource focuses on right angled triangles D2 – that Pythagoras’ Theorem is used to determine the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle. Extends students to find other sides of the triangle using Pythagoras’ Theorem D3 – the relationship between corresponding sides of right-angled triangles. This is not covered well in this resource D4 – the terminology associated with right-angled triangles. Limited terminology is provided but it does use the correct mathematical language P1 – use Pythagoras’ Theorem to solve simple problems involving right-angled triangles. Students can use this theorem to solve a real life problem that may occur. P2 – recognise and demonstrate use of appropriate terminology Does not encourage students to use correct terminology P3 – identify the sides of a right-angled triangle.Helps students to identify the sides in a triangle P4 – communicate their understanding of the relationship between Pythagoras’ Theorem and square root. Students need to be able to work using both Pythagoras’ Theorem and find the square root of numbers P5 – use multiplication to solve mathematical problems. Written and mental strategies are needed in order to be able to multiply numbers by themselves P6 – solve square root equations When working through the problem students must also calculate the square root of a number ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Visually engaging Provides written and audio cues Students need to work answers out or they cannot move on Gives a good definition of the theorem at the start to remind learners Extends students to solve sides other that the hypotenuse using algebraic equations This resource would be at the same level as our learning place object. It could be used to demonstrate a real life situation where Pythagoras’ theorem can be used.

Declarative/Procedural Knowledge Does this digital resource meet identified knowledge requirements? Yes No D1 – that Pythagoras’ Theorem is applied to solve simple problems involving right-angled triangles. This resource focuses on right angled triangles D2 – that Pythagoras’ Theorem is used to determine the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle. Extends students to find other sides of the triangle using Pythagoras’ Theorem D3 – the relationship between corresponding sides of right- angled triangles. Students look at all sides of the triangle and need to discover the relation ship D4 – the terminology associated with right-angled triangles. Limited terminology is provided but it does use the correct mathematical language P1 – use Pythagoras’ Theorem to solve simple problems involving right-angled triangles. Students need to use the theorem to solve problems P2 – recognise and demonstrate use of appropriate terminology Does not encourage students to use correct terminology P3 – identify the sides of a right-angled triangle. Students need to be aware which sides are the hypotenuse, opposite and adjacent P4 – communicate their understanding of the relationship between Pythagoras’ Theorem and square root. Students need to be able to work using both Pythagoras’ Theorem and find the square root of numbers P5 – use multiplication to solve mathematical problems. Written and mental strategies are needed in order to be able to multiply numbers by themselves P6 – solve square root equations When working through the problem students must also calculate the square root of a number ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Links to the Australian Curriculum standards Students are given both word and number problems to solve to check understanding Students can receive a score out of 100 Problems vary in difficulty and extend the learner Very good resource as it is linked to the curriculum. This site has a wide range of tools that could be used in various subjects. Maybe not great for explaining the original concept but will help to develop understanding through practice and varying problems

Uses correct terminology throughout Visually appealing Can extend learners when necessary This is the best resource that we discovered. It gives a great definition of Pythagoras Theorem and gives learners the opportunity to explore this step by step Pictures help to create understanding
