Animal Rescue League Feral Cats
2
What are Feral Cats? A domestic animal that has reverted back to a wild state is considered feral Lost or abandoned cats can survive only 2-4 years on their own Feral cats face death by starvation, disease, inclement weather, traffic, and predatory animals
3
Why care about Feral Cats? A single breeding pair of feral cats, over the course of 7 years, can produce 420,000 offspring US animal shelters routinely euthanize 15 million unwanted pets a year
4
What to do Simply feeding feral cats does not solve the problem! Extra food often brings in more cats to the area Food left outdoors attracts other animals Contact the Animal Rescue League’s Feral Cat Program Neuter your pets!
5
What we do Capture, neuter, and vaccinate feral cats and return them to their territories – Stabilizes the population at manageable levels – Eliminates annoying mating-related behavior – Colonies defend their territories against newcomers – Allows cats to live out natural lives Teams of volunteers maintain food and shelter for the feral cat colonies – Dishes are picked up after every daily feeding
6
Help Us! Report feral cat colonies Donate cat food and old blankets Volunteer your time Support our low-cost spay/neuter program
